New Hampshire is getting $10 million to help adults with severe mental illness manage their physical health.
The money from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will pay for services for nearly 4,500 people at the state's ten mental health centers. The program is driven by national data that shows adults with severe mental illness have a 25-year shorter life span than those without, and includes services that help people fight obesity, stop smoking and improve physical fitness.
New Hampshire already has a program called InShape, which was developed by Monadnock Family Services. Officials say the grant will allow that model to spread from hundreds of individuals to thousands.
